SoftBank Hawks outfielder Kensuke Kondo was named the Pacific League’s Batter of the Month for March and April on May 13, receiving the Taiju Seimei Monthly MVP award for the first time in roughly two years.
Kondo, who struggled during the World Baseball Classic earlier this year after going hitless in 13 at-bats, expressed relief and gratitude. “I’m really happy to win this award right at the start of the season,” he said. “After my poor performance in the WBC, I felt anxious myself, and I know the fans were worried too.”
The 30-year-old slugger bounced back strongly once the NPB regular season began, leading the Hawks with consistent hitting and run production. His impressive April earned him the monthly honor, marking a significant turnaround from his international struggles.
“It was a tough period, but I just focused on my daily preparation,” Kondo added. “This award gives me confidence to keep pushing for the rest of the season.”
